Game of Skill
Kozone is considered a “game of skill.” A game of skill is one where participants rely more on their skills, knowledge, and strategy than on pure chance or luck. Players participating in online e-sports games use their understanding, attention, and training to win, making it a skill-based activity.
Online e-sports gaming is legal in most regions and is based on the concept of skill-based competition. Kozone’s contests and tournaments reward players who demonstrate superior gameplay skills, thus qualifying as games of skill under applicable legal definitions.
Alignment with Indian Laws
Games of skill such as online e-sports are recognized as legal across India, with a few exceptions. The Public Gambling Act, 1867 (“PGA, 1867”) governs gambling laws in India and prohibits public gambling and keeping common gaming houses. However, it does not apply to skill-based games where outcomes depend on the player’s abilities and decisions.
State Restrictions
Some Indian states have unclear or restrictive regulations regarding skill-based games. In view of this, Kozone restricts users from the following states from participating in paid contests:
- Andhra Pradesh
- Assam
- Odisha (Orissa)
- Telangana
- Sikkim
- Meghalaya
- Nagaland
Users from these states can still explore the platform but will not be eligible for pay-to-play competitions or tournaments hosted by Kozone.
